Classic tour in Padua with Spritz Padovano
Accompaniment of the Local Tour Leader, accompanied walk in the city, coffee in the traditional Caffè Pedrocchi or Spritz Padovano. Padua, the "città dotta" or "city of learning" of the Veneto Region, is a place famous for its hospitality, culture and entertainment. This reputation is due to the presence of one of the oldest Universities in Italy, where such illustrious persons as Galileo Galilei once taught, and home of the perfectly preserved ancient Operating Theatre. A city's point of reference is the Basilica di Sant'Antonio, which holds the remains of Saint Anthony and which is the object of pilgrimage by thousands of persons from all over the world. The Scrovegni Chapel, a true masterpiece, with its frescos by Giotto is not to be missed. Starting from the squares in the historic centre, one finds the City Hall and Palazzo della Ragione (court of law in the XIII century). A short distance away one can stop at Caffè Pedrocchi, once a meeting place for artists and authors. But it is also wonderful to "lose oneself" in the streets of the city, following an itinerary through the characteristic squares and reaching Prato della Valle one of the largest squares in all of Europe. And for those who wish to learn all the secrets of the most disparate plant species, nothing is better than a visit to the oldest University Botanical Garden in the world.

The city of Padova
Padova claims to be the oldest city in northern Italy. According to a tradition which goes back at least to Virgil’s Aeneid, it was founded in 1183 BC by the Trojan prince Antenor, who is believed to have led the people of Eneti, or Veneti, from Paphlagonia (in the north of what is now Turkey) to Italy.
Padua is one of the most charming and dynamic towns in Italy. The historical centre boasts a wealth of medieval, renaissance and modern architecture; here a fascinating mix of historic and new, of centuries-old traditions and metropolitan rhythms creates a unique atmosphere.
Padova is only one of the Veneto’s seven provinces, each of which is home to beautiful natural scenery and internationally renowned works of art. Venice is 30-40 minutes away by train and so is within easy reach, making it the perfect destination for a day trip or even a special night out. Also the beautiful and charming town of Verona is very near, only 45 minutes by train.
Padova hosts over 58,000 students within a population of little more than 210,000 inhabitants: these are the numbers depicting one of the oldest university towns, where student and city life coexist in close proximity on a daily basis.
The ancient piazzas, the open air of the river banks enjoyed by joggers, an aperitif on the Piovego waterfront, not to mention an abundance of cultural, musical and sporting events… all features of a vibrant and welcoming city where visitors can spend time in places full of history, art and beauty, like the Botanical Garden where they can go free of charge. Many different languages can be heard when walking around the city streets, not least as a result of the continuous flow of international tourists.
Padova is also well-endowed with parks, green spaces and bicycle lanes (currently 162 km), allowing people to get from A to B quickly and easily, every day.
