>> 149 1st European Turfgrass Society Conference Zoysiagrass Stolon Activity During Establishment |

Zoysiagrass is a high-quality turf that is well adapted to the transition zone and can be used in lawns, playgrounds and golf courses. Using zoysiagrass can reduce maintenance budgets because of its heat, drought, pest and wear tolerance compared to cool-season grasses. However, the main disadvantage of zoysiagrass is its slow establishment rate (Patton et al., 2007) compared with other warm-season turfgrasses which hampers more widespread use, and increases grow-in costs. A new establishment system based on single potted plants (Volterrani et al., 2008) has been developed in order to overcome some of the main problems arising during the establishment. The objective of this study is to determine differences in establishment rate of ten cultivars of Zoysia spp. established from single potted plants and to examine the correlation between their stolon growth rate and temperature at soil surface.
